Top celebrity grudge matches
By MICHAEL RECHTSHAFFEN, Special to QMI Agency
So Lindsay Lohan has finally paid her debt to society and Charlie Sheen's remaining remarkably focused on getting his new TV series off the ground.
Fortunately, there's still a slew of good old-fashioned celebrity feuds brewing to prevent things from being totally dull and boring.
Let's meet the opponents:
The Grudge Match: Rosie O'Donnell vs. Oprah Winfrey
The Gripe: The two are reportedly no longer on speaking terms after Oprah cancelled Ro's low-rated OWN talk show.
Fighting Words: While they've been publicly keeping their ill-feelings to themselves, that hasn't stopped O'Donnell's old nemesis Donald Trump from triumphantly tweeting, "Rosie O'Donnell has failed again "¦when will media executives learn that Rosie just hasn't got it?"
The Grudge Match: Jon Hamm vs. Kim Kardashian
The Gripe: The debonair Mad Men star had some pointed things to say to Elle UK regarding the cult of reality celebrity, singling out Kim K. as a not-so-sterling example.
Fighting Words: "Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a (expletive) idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture."
In response, Kardashian tweeted, "Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is part of a successful TV show, writes, designs and creates, 'stupid,' is in my opinion careless." While Hamm subsequently insisted he meant nothing personal by his observations, he also maintained, "I don't think they were careless; I think they were accurate."
The Grudge Match: Piers Morgan vs. Madonna
The Gripe: Morgan reignited his long-standing beef with Madge by greeting the Social Network newcomer with a reminder about his "No Material Girls Allowed" policy.
Fighting Words: "Welcome to Twitter -- you're still banned from my show. Love Piers x." MDNA's people responded with a reminder that Morgan had actually invited her to be his guest as recently as last October, to which Morgan tweeted back, "Madonna's only been banned from my CNN show, not my UK show, which sent that invite. But I'm now banning her from that too."
So far Madonna appears to have taken the high road in their mystery spat, remaining uncharacteristically mum on the subject.
The Grudge Match: Joan Rivers vs. Chelsea Handler
The Gripe: Earlier this year, the E! rivals sharpened their artillery of barbs with a little instigating from Howard Stern.
Fighting Words: Appearing on Stern's XM Sirius radio show, Handler responded to a question about how she felt about the 78-year-old comedienne, snapping, "What the (expletive) do I care about Joan Rivers?" The next day a livid Rivers dropped by Stern's show, warning, "Don't you come after me, you whore," suggesting that Handler's success could be attributed to her having "made it on her back," having had a long-term relationship with the president of Comcast, the cable giant that has a major stake in E!. Me-owwww!
The Grudge Match: Kate Hudson vs. Cameron Diaz
The Gripe: Well, it all reportedly began a couple of years ago after Diaz started hooking up with Alex Rodriguez just months after Hudson broke up with the career player, which looked like payback for Hudson dating Justin Timberlake mere days after he and Diaz ended their relationship.
The Status: Where's the beef? It seems to be all settled. Kate and Cameron are apparently good buds once more, having settled their differences at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Phew.
