Despite just announcing their first world tour in over 20 years, there seems to be little joy in Whoville.
NME.com reports a dispute over charity webcasts of their European tour dates has led Pete Townshend to post unflattering comments about bandmate Roger Daltrey on his official website.
The Who are offering up individual shows at thewholive.tv for $10, with proceeds going to charity. According to Townshend, Daltrey is against certain elements of the project, so the plug has been pulled on the webcasts -- for now.
"Roger seems to think when I provide bandwidth for The Who website, and for live streaming, he is being exploited in some way and wants a piece of the future 'profit'. Don't think there is much chance of profit when it is all aimed at charity."
The guitarist has even set up a sarcastic email address for Who fans to write in to convince Daltrey to change his mind: thegreatevilweb@hotmail.com. (Note: Email address is now full.)
Townshend also touched on their current relationship in the posting: "Roger is my partner in The Who. He is not my partner in anything else. We love each other but we are not regular social buddies like Bono and The Edge, we do not discuss or share ideas, and we have no unified joint vision of strategy for The Who or for creative projects in general."
He did say, however, that the new album, with the working title "Who2," is in the final stages and that it is "starting to sound pretty good."
The group's North American portion of their world tour includes seven Canadian stops. Full details here.
