Of all the bands that emerged from England in the punk era, who'd have thought The Stranglers would be the ones that lasted? And yet, despite losing their lead singer nearly 15 years ago and experiencing the requisite ups and downs and ins and outs, here they are marking their 30th year of existence with their 15th studio album, Norfolk Coast.
Bassist and founding member Jean Jacques Burnel may wince at the idea of a rock band going on that long -- "It's an awful thing to congratulate an old rocker on" -- but underneath he has a pretty good idea of why they've stayed together. In a nutshell, it means sharing the glory -- and the money.
