The North Carolina-based "swamp-pop" group had been getting by on a string of modestly successful albums before guitarist Rick Miller, bassist Mary Huff and drummer Dave Hartman signed to Geffen Records and released two very critically acclaimed discs, 1995's Dirt Track Date and '97's Plastic Seat Sweat.
