Stallone lands Expendables legal victory

A judge has dismissed a lawsuit which accused Sylvester Stallone of stealing ideas for The Expendables from another screenwriter.

The Hollywood tough guy co-wrote the script for the 2010 blockbuster, which united him with action heroes including Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Last October , screenwriter Marcus Webb filed a lawsuit in New York alleging The Expendables was based on his script for a project called The Cordoba Caper, claiming Stallone's movie was "strikingly similar and in some places identical" to his own work.

Webb demanded unspecified damages for copyright infringement as well as an injunction to stop work on a forthcoming sequel to The Expendables.

Stallone denied the allegations, with his legal team arguing that he had written several drafts of The Expendables before Webb's script began circulating in Hollywood.

During a summary judgment on Monday, Judge Jed Rakoff sided with Stallone and dismissed the lawsuit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Expendables 2 is due for release in August.
